Challenge: The theme was ’Celebrating Our Cultural Communities’ and I heard there’s a big Filipino community in Glendale. Being half Filipino, I wanted to do something to celebrate that.
Solution: My art is a modern woman in a Filipiniana dress and a folk dance from the Philippines called the ‘Pandanggo’, in which the dancers perform while balancing lights. This piece pays homage to my Filipino roots and keeping in mind the province of where my grandparents are originally from, called Pangasinan.
